Refresher Course on Human Values and Indian Ethos



3-week Refresher Course in Human Values and Indian Ethos (RC-283) was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. A.D.N. Bajpai on Nov. 17, 2014. He emphasized that in modern education role of Indian Ethos is important for guidance and it must enrich value system of the society. During the c oming weeks of the course, the co-ordinator Prof. V.K.Mishra invited learned resource persons who talked on important topics viz: Beliefs and Doubts in human values, Contemporary Indian Social norms, Environmental values, Values in Indian Literature, Human Rights, Women’s role in value conservation etc. The core staff of HRDC interacted with the participants daily on various essential guidelines. Prof. Kiran Rekha, Director, HRDC gave ppt. presentation on ethics in Conservation of Environment. The course concluded on Dec. 6, 2015 with the valedictory address of Prof. R.S.Chauhan, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh University who was the chief guest of the occasion. He told the teachers to be role model for inculcation of values among their students.


Refresher Course on Research Methodology for Social Science (RC-285)



Refresher Course on Research Methodology for Social Sciences was organized by HRDC during March 2-21, 2015 in co-ordinatorship of Sh. N.S.Bist. The inauguration of the Course done by Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Mahajan, Dean, Students’ Welfare, Himachal Pradesh University who highlighted the importance of research to enrich academics and skills in teaching profession. The three-week refresher course included talks on basics of research, Plagiarism, Data Collection Methods, Survey & Sampling, ppt. technique of presentation, Hypothesis – questionnaire formation, Utility of SPSS, Higher Education Issues, Qualitative and quantitative measurements etc. by well known resource persons. IT-Lab, Library and field visits were also organized during the course and Director, HRDC Prof. Kiran Rekha took sessions on Quiz, Brains Trust and essential guidelines etc. Prof. S.L.Sharma, Former Dean, Social Sciences, Punjab University, Chandigarh was the chief guest for valedictory of the course who gave important tips for quality research in social sciences.

Orientation Programme-118



Teaching and learning always go hand in hand and it is always a welcome opportunity to learn in the jaunt of life. One such survey of learning was initiated with HRDC’s OP-118 on 20th April, 2015 inaugurated by the Hon’ble vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University, Prof. Arun Diwakar Nath Bajpai. 29 participants joined the course from 20.4.2015 to 16.5.2015 of ten States and got experience about different dimension of education like learning, research and extension. The programme was very much blended with participant by learning action, filming of microteaching, seminar present action and self-evaluation. The programme covered important and global issue to overview and sensitize the participants. Topic like gender sensitization, leadership quality, yoga and health, overview of environment, research methodology,, case studies, AIDS, quality RTI, Book review and panel discussion on issues in higher education were covered by the eminent resource persons. In addition number of activities e.g. Lab. And Library sessions, Field visits, Quiz and Brains Trust etc. were organized by core team of HRDC.

The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor was kind enough to spare his precious time to interact with the participant sand  enchanted everyone with his presidential address in which he said thrust on developing  a  serious approach towards interdisciplinary research and implementation of the techniques learned in this course during 4-week duration in their teaching to benefit the students and society at large. Participants rated this course par excellence and a grand success. Prof. Kiran Rekha, Director, HRDC informed the participants about basic components of Orientation Programme, viz: General Awareness, education Pedagogy and Philosophy, ICT & Resource Generation, Personality Development and Management.

Orientation Programme-119



Orientation Programme-119 started on 22nd June, 2015 with an inaugural function in the presence of Prof. Rejender Singh Chauhan, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh University as Chief Guest with participation of 40 college and university teachers from all over the country from 19 disciplines. Prof. Chauhan addressed all the participants and conveyed meaning and purpose of the Orientation Programme to the house in an effective manner. Prof. Kiran Rekha, Director, Human Resource Development Centre, in her discourse said that teachers are highly benefitted by the number of activities held during Orientation Programme and go back to their respective institution as enriched teacher and agent for creative change. Apart from this, the programme gave the participants exposure to the scholarly lectures on diverse topics viz. nano technology, gender sensitization, book review, remote sensing, Kashmir issue, RTI, CBCS, Scientific temper, good governance. Filming of teaching was a unique experience for all the participants and Self-encounter remains one of the most unmatched experience of this course. The participants rated this course the highest learning experience and unforgettable one. The valediction ceremony was chaired by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. D. N. Bajpai who congratulated all the participants for being a part of HRDC OP-119, Shimla and urged the teachers to become great researcher and good human beings with their remarkable contribution to the society. All the participants appreciated the course co-ordinator Dr.Anita Sharma, Assistant Director, HRDC for successful organization of Orientation Programme-119.

Refresher Course on Information and Communication Technology



The Human Recourse Development Centre, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla conducted a refresher course in ICT from 06.07.2015 to 25.07.2015. The course was inaugurated by Prof. Rajinder Singh Chauhan, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh University on 06.07.2015. The participants attending the refresher course were thirty in number and were from eighteen different states and the home state, Himachal Pradesh. Since the program was interdisciplinary the participants were from diversified area of specialization i.e. Mathematics, Physics, Botany, Law, Gandhian Studies, Education, Geography, Psychology, Political Science, Management, English and Library Science. The program started with Setting the Tone of the course schedule & Breaking the Ice where the participants were introduced to each other and various committees were formed. The topic of discussion during the course were wide spread, initiating from Introductory Concepts of ICT, I.T. & Society, Free & Open Source Software, Trends in Engineering & Technology, Networking, e-waste, Internet & Society, Free & Open Source Software, Trends in Engineering & Technology, Networking, e-waste, Internet & Security, MS office, Libre office, Search engine optimization, evil software, Statistical Package for Social Science, Cyber law, National Knowledge Network (NKN), Copyright & Plagiarism, Active Learning, Outcome Based Education System, Yoga, Remote Sensing, Cultural Computing, e-governance, Future Plants, Hidden Web and many More. To supplement various practical session were also held in the IT lab and participants applied this learning during their paper and project presentations.
Core team from HRDC Prof. Kiran Rekha, Director, Dr. Anita Sharma, Assistant Director & Dr. Anita Ganpati, Course Co-ordinator  also conducted various activity sessions. The excursion to J.P. University, Waknaghat and visit to the Indian institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla were also made part of the course. All the participants of RC-290 successfully delivered their Power-Point presentations. Further all the participants in teams worked on the project assigned to them. Everyone showed their hidden talent by contributing in the cultural, Quiz and Brain Test Exercises. The refresher course ended with a hope that the deliberations of this refresher course enlightened the participants on the power of ICT, its appropriate usage and how ICT may benefit the society. During the entire period of the course all the participants were together as a well knit team. The group was a good example of unity in diversity as the participants were from numerous states and diverse fields. The valedictory function was presided over by Dr. Pankaj Lalit, Registrar Himachal Pradesh University. The certificates of participation were given to all the participants by the chief guest after delivering valedictory address emphasizing the constructive use of ICT in academics.

Sh. Virbhadra Singh, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh inaugurated the guest house of UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, H.P. University Shimla on July 22, 2014. The two Storeyed building has accommodation for twenty teacher participants in ground floor and reception, dinning hall and kitchen in the first floor. The remaining two floors are planned to be constructed in near future.

Human Resource Development Centre, H.P. University has completed four Orientation programme from February to June, 2014. Total five Orientation Programmes are organized per year for enhancing professional competencies of teacher.
Prof. A.D.N. Bajpai, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, H.P. University Shimla while speaking on valedictory of OP-116 on June 28, 2014 emphasized on the necessity of self introspection for enlightening about new horizons of knowledge. Then he stressed on the need of analysis of acquired information before sharing with the society selflessly. Innovations leads to progress of generations essential for development of the nation. 38 Assistant Professors from colleges and universities belonging to eighteen states participated in this Orientation Programme.

Prof. Bhupinder Singh Marh, Director, Human Resource Development Centre, in his discourse said that teachers are highly benefited by the number of activities held during Orientation Programme. He suggested the participants to implement the techniques learned during these four weeks in their respective institutions. Prof. Kiran Rekha shared the report of Orientation Programme and asked the participants not to forget the interacting but remain updated and keep their minds open for creative applications of new ideas. Dr. Anita Sharma thanked the group for co-operation and active participation and urged to be in touch and write for ‘Academe” journal of UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, H.P. University Shimla.


On February, 2014 Refresher Course on I.T. was inaugurated by Prof. P.K. Ahluwalia Former, Dean, Physical Sciences, H.P. University, Shimla. He said that knowledge of information technology has brought a sea change in society. Its use in academies is important and beneficial to provide new perspective.


Human Resource Development Centre organized Refresher Course in Research Methodology for Social Sciences in the coordinatorship of Prof. N.S. Bist. Prof. P.K. Chauve from Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi addressed as Chief Guest of the valedictory function on March 22, 2014. He emphasized on good quality and socially relevant research in social sciences. Number of issues related to creative approach in social research were discussed during three weeks.


Prof. Suresh Kumar, Former, Dean Studies, H.P. University, Shimla inaugurated Refresher Course of Commerce on April 07, 2014. He said that to update the subject knowledge such courses are very important. Prof. Bhupinder Singh, Director, Human Resource Development Centre highlighted the important activities going on these courses. Prof. Vikas Sharm was coordinator of this Refresher Course-274.

Prof. Furqan Qumar, Hon’ble Vice-Chanellor Central University Himachal Pradesh was the Chief Guest of valedictory function of Refresher Course in Commerce. In his address Prof. Furqan stressed on the importance of exchange of ideas the bring innovations in teaching and which the academics. Prof. A.D.N. Bajpai, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, H.P. University Shimla urged the teachers to spread the light of gained knowledge their students and society.



Refresher Course in Environmental Sciences (Inter-Disciplinary) was held form 28.04.20114 to 17.05.2014 in the coordinatorship of Dr. Balak Ram Thakur, Dept. of Geography, H.P. University. Diverse Physical, Social and Health perspectives were discussed during there three weeks. Resource person concluded that comprehevisive approach towards the various issues regarding environment is required to bring sustainability. Prof. A.D.N. Bajpai stressed on the application of indigenous knowledge to bring about conservation of natural resources and to achieve pollution free surroundings.



3-week Special Summer School on Research Methodology (Inter-Disciplinary) was organized from May 52 to 31, 2014 by Human Resource Development Centre, H.P. University, Shimla. Prof. Romesh Chand, Dept. of Education, H.P. University, Shimla coordinated this course. As Chief Guest Prof. A.D.N. Bajpai, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, H.P. University, Shimla interacted with the participants on inauguration and valedictory functions. He suggested the participants to adopt right methodology during their research so as to get desired results also quality research adds to academic achievements of the teachers.



Refresher Course in I.T. (Inter-Disciplinary) was inaugurated on July 07, 2014 by Prof. A.D.N. Bajpai, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, H.P. University, Shimla and Prof. Rajinder Singh Chauhan, Pro Vice-Chancellor, H.P. University Shimla was presented as Guest of Honour, 31 colleges and universities teachers got exposure abut different aspect of information technology and its use in academics.

Refresher Course in Education started on August 4, 2014. Prof. A.D.N. Bajpai, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, H.P. University Shimla was the Chief Guest. He opined that educationists need to have serious approach towards uncovering the old treasure of knowledge and rich traditions prevailing during “Gurukul” period. Judicious blending of modern and ancestral systems helps in taking the challenge to instill the innate quality of an excellent academician and effective administrator in the teacher educator.


3-weeks Interdisciplinary course on Disaster Management was organized during September 8th to 27th, 2014. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. A.D.N. Bajpai inaugurated the course and told the house about the modern technologies used by human and types of disaster management for manmade disturbances and natural activities.

RC-283 was the interdisciplinary course in Human Values and Indian Ethos, Coordinated by Prof. V.K. Mishra, Former Professor of Sanskrit, Himachal Pradesh University well known resource persons interacted with participants in the theme of course. Prof. A.D.N. Bajpai, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor addressed the participants on inauguration during lecture sessions and was of the view that values are basis of Indian roots which are educative to the entire globe. Numerous related topics were discussed during 3-weeks. On valedictory Prof. Rajinder Singh Chauhan, Hon’ble Pro Vice-Chancellor was the Chief Guest and he emphasized on proper application of education for conservation of human values and Indian Ethos.

Short Term Courses for Academic and Administrative officers of Himachal Pradesh University were organized for two days each during Administrative Strategies for Academicians, Awareness about R.T.I., Implementation of R.T.I., Office Procedures and Benefits, Gender Sensitization, Excellence in Financial Management, Human Rights, Work Place: Emerging Challenges and Needed competencies Administration effectiveness and RTI Awareness were appreciated by the Participants of these programmes.
